to identify science questions that can best be addressed using these platforms and sensors, alone or in concert with existing sampling modes;

to determine what is required to develop even more capable “next-generation” platforms and sensors;

to propose mechanisms to enable access to these sampling modes by the broader community; |

to identify whether there are issues of data communication, curation, etc. that are unique to autonomous sampling; |

to suggest ways to engage the educational community in using data and knowledge generated by these new sampling modes; and |
| • |
to produce a document that outlines a strategic plan to enable full utilization of these new modes of sampling. The document will be available in draft format for public comment in early summer, with publication in autumn 2003.
