This document grew out of the Workshop on Computational Geoinformatics, May 2-4, 2004. This is a document written by committee -- parallel processing in practice! This is a multifunctional document. Its original goal was to help the National Science Foundation in planning. In addition, it serves as a scientific review of the field of computational solid Earth science. Such a review does not currently exist. Finally, it can even serve as a basis for a graduate seminar on the field, using the topics, summary write-ups, and references on each area as a reading list.
